The Face: Vapour Organic Beauty

Vapour Organic Beauty is continuing to impress me, not only has is given me my first perfect natural lipstick that is truly pigmented but it all has a range of skin products for all skin types and thankfully shades! Vapour Atmosphere Soft Focus and Luminous foundations comes in 12 shades 3 of which are suitable for olive to dark skin. Ok, so you all may not find your exact match but I have to give props to Vapour for even including darker shades in a relatively small range. I can name countless lines that do not even bother to include one shade for women of colour.

I've been using Vapour Organic Beauty Stratus Soft Focus Skin Perfecter, Atmosphere Luminous Foundation and Illusionist Concealer. all from Being Content The combination has been working great in the current heat wave we are having in the UK.

The Stratus Soft Focus Instant Skin Perfector in s902 (£47) is light weight and gives a velvety base for applying foundation.

"The Skin Perfector is made with 70% Certified Organic ingredients and 30% natural mineral pigments and vitamins, with Organic Pumpkin and Papaya complex, essential fatty acid-rich Organic Evening Primrose, essential amino acid Lysine and skin supportive Silica. Stratus is infused with Vapour’s face-specific infusion of anti-inflammatory Frankincense, antioxidant Tulsi, and moisturising Lotus flowers"

I loved the fact that the Skin Perfector is light weight, it also combats oily skin without leaving it to dry looking so you are left with velvety skin as opposed to matte skin. It has a kind of metallic finish which reflects the light giving you fresh youthful looking skin.

The Illusionist concealer (£20)is great too! I used under eyes and brows to brighten those areas

"Illusionist Concealer is made with 70% Certified Organic ingredients and 30% natural mineral pigments and vitamins. Illusionist nourishes with Vapour’s face-specific infusion of anti-inflammatory Frankincense, antioxidant Tulsi and moisturising and calming Lotus flowers"

The hero products for me is the Atmosphere luminous Foundation (£35) which like many Vapour products comes in stick form. It's great for quick application, I apply like I'm going into war (which is accurate most days!) and blend with my trust eco styler buffer brush for a perfect finish

"Atmosphere Luminous Foundation is made with 70% Certified Organic ingredients and 30% natural mineral pigments and vitamins. Atmosphere nourishes with Vapour’s face-specific infusion of anti-inflammatory Frankincense, antioxidant Tulsi, and moisturising and calming Lotus flowers"

I have The Illusionist Concealer in 040 and the Atmosphere Foundation in 150 which is for dark skin with red undertones, Vapour id one of the few natural brands I've found that have shades for black women, I can be quite frustrating trying to find ethical, sustainable  and organic products that are suitable. Thankfully brands like Vapour are making way for more brand to expand their shade selection

Vapour is great if you want the look of naturally perfect skin, it's not going to cover all imperfections, but I'm not sure that that's a bad thing! I find it gives me that no make up make up look as opposed to the over done look (which has it's place don't get me wrong!) even with wearing a primer, concealer and foundation the products are still light weight.

Vapour is a luxury organic line, Which is reflected in the price, so this is more along the lines of Bobbie Brown in terms of price with the added advantage of all the vapour products in this review being 100% natural. I've found vapour products to be fuss free and high performance. You can check out more Vapour products and other luxury natural brands at www.beingcontent.com

The Lipstick: Vapour Organic Beauty Siren LIpstick

I feel like I just discovered the Loch Ness Monster, I was beginning to think that it would never happen but it has! THANK THE LORD IT HAS! I've found it....a pigmented, naturally derived lipstick! Courtesy of Vapour Organic Beauty. The Siren range of lipsticks(£18) from Vapour use a natural formulation, that is long lasting as well as moisturising free from harmful chemicals that we often eat (yeah I eat my lippy!)

"Siren is designed to protect lips from moisture loss and environmental assault. Siren's NEW botanical infusion contains hydrating Myrrh, Rose buds, healing Lemon Balm, antioxidant Pomegranate, soothing Jojoba oil and essential fatty acid rich Camilina oil"

I have Bold a classic deep red, almost burgundy, It feels amazing on, and has a slight gloss. Honestly it was love at first swatch! the colour payoff is very good, especially for a natural lipstick and it's great if you want a red lip but don't want to go down the pillar box red route. This shade would suit most skin tones, all the Siren Lipsticks have been  chosen to enhance and complement your skin tone. Vapour also have a range of foundation with around 12 shades 5 of which are suitable for brown skin (thank you Vapour!) Vapour Organic Beauty is on the pricey side at £18 for a lipstick however it's just £3.50 more than a MAC lipstick. Personally I'd rather pay a little more for a kinder product (That being said I am turning into a natural ingredient megalomaniac)

I was sent a whole bunch of vapour goodness from Being Content another great find for getting hold of sought after natural and organic products. Being Content concentrates on the luxury and quality of high performance brands such as Vapour Organic Beauty which prides itself on using certified organic ingredients, being completely transparent in all aspects of the brand and being ethical and sustainable (Learn More Here) I'll be working my way through the range and will share my thought over the next week or so.

The BB Cream: Iman Cosmetics

I finally got my hands on Iman's new BB Creme*. Iman Cosmetics is like gold dust especially in these rural parts. Iman used to be stocked in department stores but like many of our favourite brown beauty brands it was slowly phased out, so anyone looking to get there hands on it would have to search hard or go online. The BB Creme has had many rave reviews and has been touted as one of the best BB's for darker skin tones. I got the BB Creme in Earth Medium, using the simple online shade selector which I found very helpful and probably the only time I've chosen a makeup item online and been almost certain it would be a match.

The Iman BB Creme is called a skin tone evener with SPF 15, it's semi sheer and actually feels like it, I found a few of the BB creams I've tried have been pretty thick, so much so that I barely see the point of using them as opposed to regular foundation. The BB feels really nice on my skin. I applied as directed in the video below (just the beginning of the video I did not add powder)

The BB Creme is very sheer, my skin doesn't look caked, it's very subtle, I wouldn't suggest adding more product to get more coverage, I tried this a looked very shiny and I left a lot of brown stains all over the place! You only need to use a little bit and I also suggest applying with a brush to get a even coverage. On it's own the BB is quite dewy which I liked, however if you prefer more of a matte finish I used some mineral foundation on top and it worked really well together. Below I'm wearing the Iman BB cream as is and a very small amount, I'm impressed with how natural it looks and it's been working wonders during this mini heat wave in the UK. The ingredients aren't really my cup of tea but to be honest I have some lipsticks that contain worse (and I eat most of that!) The Iman BB cream is Paraben free and contains Kokum, Almond, Aloe and Vitamins A, E & C which is better than many on the market. The BB makes a nice change from my regular foundation it's easy to apply and gives that makeup free look. Iman BB Creme is £23.99 and available online and at some outlets in the UK.

The CC cream: Pur Mineral

I'm late on the whole CC cream thing, but I'm finally getting into it, and have been searching high and low for a CC cream with fewer toxic ingredients that come in darker shades! I finally found one by Pur Minerals who have a dark selection (however no darker than medium brown) I did get a 4 in 1 powder but it wasn't a match, the CC cream however had more of a chance because it gets rubbed in rather than sit a top the skin (I think....) Pur Minerals CC cream is a moisturiser  brightener, primer, concealer and SPF foundation all in one.

I used the CC cream on freshly washed skin, and as a moisturiser and brightener it worked pretty well, it's quite thick but it rubs in easily, I used fingers to place cream under my eyes, cheeks, forehead and chin then used my Eco Tools buffering brush to blend into my skin, after blending it into my skin I still looked like me (not like Casper!) The CC cream self adjusts and leave skin bright and even. Personally I don't think I'd wear this CC cream on a daily basis as an alternative to my mineral foundation as I found it  a fraction to light and I like more coverage. But I would use it as a concealer and primer for skin it can be worn under other make up which is great and it's silicone free so no yucky film like layer on your skin. It's mineral based and free from things like Parabens and Mineral Oil

Pur Minerals is available at Marks and Spencer  or the Pur Minerals Website

The Interview: Cheryl Of Viridian Nutrition

Some of you may remember that I had started taking Viridian Supplements a little over a month ago, I'd been using Viridians Beauty Oil along with Beauty Complex Tablets. I know many of you have you favourite vitamins and supplements, but have you taken the time to find out what is in your tablets? Many supplements contain things like Talc and Titanium Dioxide which some people question being in our cosmetics, but what about what we put into our mouths. I spoke to the founder of Viridian Cheryl.....

Firstly why are vitamins and supplements important? Can they ever be taken as a replacement for a healthy diet?
Nutrition is a fundamental cornerstone to human health. Every single reaction, biochemical pathway, and physiological event that takes place in our bodies, requires nutrients at some stage. An elaborate and perfectly organised sequence of vitamins, minerals, fats, and amino acids, allow our bodies to function on a day to day basis. However, when our needs in this area are not met, things can quickly begin to go awry. A diet based around whole foods, fruits vegetables, and the right types of fats can be the greatest health insurance we can have. Nutritional supplementation is also a practical tool. It is a sad fact that in today’s modern world, we cannot rely 100% upon the quality and nutrient density of even the best fresh produce, due to intensive farming, depleted soils and environmental factors. Coupled with this, we have far greater physical and emotional demands placed upon us, meaning that very often our requirements for specific nutrients are higher than they ever have been. Nutritional supplements, when used correctly can be a valuable tool in addressing such issues.“

There are many vits and supplements on the Market what makes viridian different from the rest?
Viridian was founded in 1999 on three fundamental principles – to create an exceptional range of healthful food supplements and to make a significant contribution to the funds of children’s and environmental charities. Our commitments to Purity, the Environment & Community Support make us very different to the mass-market brands.
Many vitamin companies are owned by giant global corporations, Viridian is British, privately-owned and family-run which means we can take care of our customers in a more personal manner.”

Why should we be concerned with what are vitamins are made of?
The key Viridian difference is purity. We don’t add any nasties to our supplements. No colourings, flavourings or manufacturing aids such as magnesium stearate which is used as a slippery agent to speed manufacture . For instance, most supplements will include titanium dioxide – the bright white powder used to make the white lines at Wimbledon or on football pitches, to standardise the colour of their tablets and capsules – Viridian supplements will appear brown, green, pink or variations depending on the ingredients and season. It’s really important to check the label of your vitamins. You wouldn’t sprinkle titanium dioxide, talc, shellac, or magnesium stearate over your dinner, like a condiment - so why accept these in your food supplements?

How long before you can see the results of viridian supplements
This will vary from person to person and from supplement to supplement. That’s why it’s a good idea to pop into your local independent health food store for one-to-one advice. Generally speaking, we suggest a 90-day trial of any supplement before being sure of the results, but some will be quicker to act.

What are your suggestions for healthy skin and hair?
For problem skin, try our Clear Skin Complex together with Clear Skin Omega Oil, both of which are inspired by the Clear Skin Cookbook by Dale Pinnock, the medicinal chef. The response to these supplements has been tremendous. For general skin, hair and nail maintenance, I suggest Ultimate Beauty Complex capsules together with Ultimate Beauty Omega Oil. The oil supplements can be taken from the spoon or added to food, just don’t cook with them or you’ll damage the healthy elements. For nails, our brand new Ultimate Beauty Organic Nail & Cuticle Oil is fabulous, just dot a drop from the pipette on to each nail and massage twice daily.

Am I glowing........

I've been using the supplements for a little while and have noticed at change in how I feel in general, my hair and nails have grown stronger and I feel more upbeat and energised which may be due to the supplements or the fact that I've been experimenting with ways to take my oil, so my food choices have been rather healthy, I also feel that if there is the option to go the non toxic route why not do it!

The Review: Zao Organic Lipstick

I was very excited to hear that Zao Makeup was now available in the UK and Ireland as they were suggested to me as I'm currently on a quest to clean up my make up bag, Zao is naturally derived with organic ingredients and sustainable bamboo packaging which I'm in love with.  The Packaging is also great because it can be re used. I was sent a sample Zao's Matte Lipstick in Dark Red (£14.95 or Refill £9.99)

B E N E F I T S

Pomegranate
Regenerating and moisturising, pomegranate extract provides an excellent level of moisture, it is also a good aid in cell regeneration and fighting against free radicals, which are responsible for tissue ageing. it also increases the synthesis of collagen, it fights the formation of fine lines on lips.

Cocoa butter
Cocoa butter protects the skin from aggressive external influences. It helps maintain moisture levels as it slows water loss from the skin by forming a barrier on the skin surface.

Silver a Natural preservative
These micro-particles of pure silver are antiseptic (especially on skin and mucous membranes) and antibacterial as well,  preserving the product and protecting the skin.

Castor oil
Castor oil is a very rich substance (one of the richest in fatty acids) that penetrates the skin quickly while providing nutrition and moisturising without leaving a greasy feeling but rather a silky one (you can find detailed benefits here)

Dark Red is more of a brown colour, (very reminiscent of Mac's Tabla) and though it is matte the lipstick goes on velvety smooth due to all the active moisturising ingredients, the colour pay off is quite good for a natural lipstick (I often find they don't have the brightest of hues) it's quite sheer but it is also buildable. Dark Red is a great every day lip colour as it is subtle and will be my Natural replacement for my trusty Tabla!  Zao does have foundation shades for darker skin tones though it is limited at the moment the Compact Foundation in Chocolate is one of the darkest I've seen from from a natural cosmetics line so hopefully more shades will be added soon!

The Tools: Eco Tools

I adore Eco Tools brushes, since picking up a 4 piece finishing set from my local TK maxx I'm now obsessed with them! They are like the brush equivalent of pokenmon card 'gotta catch em all!'
I'm now the proud owner of a domed bronzer  brush which is great for applying bronzer or powder in one sweep and it's as soft as hell! I've also got a buffing brush, it's flat edge means you get excellent coverage and an airbrushed finish and it's possibly my most favourite beauty item EVER! I use it daily to easily apply my Hello Beautiful Mineral Foundation (makes the whole tap and swirl thing a lot easier! or is it swirl and tap....)

"Getting gorgeous, going green, and giving back is what we are all about!
