The Kurly Klips: Clip In Review

I've just got my hand on Kurly Klips, Naturally kinky curly clip in hair extensions. Over the last few years weave technology has been getting better and better, with the popularity of  of naturally kinky coily hair you can now get your hands on 'natural' textured weaves made from 100% human hair. This great but personally I'm not a huge fan of sew in weaves, I like to get to my scalp easily so it can breath, it's also a style that I feel is dependent on seeing a stylist. So new line Kurly Klips seemed like a great concept as they have the effect of a sew in weave but you can apply them in less the 10 minutes at home!

 Kurly Klips are made from 100% Remi Human hair, they come in two different textures, 'My Spirals' and 'My Fro' and come in 3 different lengths 'Black Mermaid' 'Bobcat' and 'Shoulder Chic'

 I was sent 'My Fro' in 'Shoulder Chic' in colour natural black, they come in packs of 7, which include: 1 X 10 inch weft
1 X 6 inch weft
5 X 3 inch weft
I got two packs and used 10 of the wefts, due to my side being cut low, most people will need to packs for a full head.

The Kurly Klips are simple to use, I parted the section of hair that I want to use to cover the wefts (I left the front of my hair) and flat twisted the rest of my hair vertically and applied Kurly Klips diagonally starting from my nape using the 3 inch wefts and working my way up. 'My Fro' texture is tightly coiled but defined, over time I think the hair will appear more textured but it arrived looking natural and feels really soft. the roots are silkier than the ends but I think it blends well. The hair can be washed and and coloured. I love how versatile the Kurly Clips are, you can go big and bold or just add a little length and body to your hair. for a pack of 7 wefts it's $179.99 (which is around £118.00) which works out quite well seen as you are cutting out the cost of installation and you can put them in and take them out when you want to. I'll definitely be rocking these while I grow out my current hair cut, the clips are stress free for my hair and also for my lifestyle and I can't wait to experiment with Kurly Klips!  

The Lipstick: Vapour Organic Beauty Siren LIpstick

I feel like I just discovered the Loch Ness Monster, I was beginning to think that it would never happen but it has! THANK THE LORD IT HAS! I've found it....a pigmented, naturally derived lipstick! The Siren range of lipsticks(£18) from Vapour use a natural formulation, that is long lasting as well as moisturising free from harmful chemicals that we often eat (yeah I eat my lippy!)

I have Bold a classic deep red, almost burgundy, It feels amazing on, and has a slight gloss. Honestly it was love at first swatch! the colour payoff is very good, especially for a natural lipstick and it's great if you want a red lip but don't want to go down the pillar box red route. This shade would suit most skin tones, all the Siren Lipsticks have been  chosen to enhance and complement your skin tone. Vapour also have a range of foundation with around 12 shades 5 of which are suitable for brown skin (thank you Vapour!) Vapour Organic Beauty is on the pricey side at £18 for a lipstick however it's just £3.50 more than a MAC lipstick. Personally I'd rather pay a little more for a kinder product (That being said I am turning into a natural ingredient megalomaniac)

The Review: Yves Rocher Repair

Yves Rocher is one of the leading beauty brands in France and is currently available in the UK and USA online. I was sent the brands new Repair line for dry and frizzy hair. The line includes Botanical Hair Care Repair Oil, Botanical Hair Care Nutri-Repair Conditioner and the Botanical Hair Care Nutri-Repair Shampoo. Ingredients are inspired by nature with lots of plant derived ingredients, free from silicone and parabens and the price point is fantastic starting at only £6.70

The Repair Pre Poo Oil is rich with restorative babassu oil and macadamia oil to nourish the scalp. I used on whole length of my hair and left as suggested for 10 minutes on dry hair. This oil mix rivals others on the market such as Morroccan oil but at £10.90 it is a fraction of the price. For me it doesn't beat using coconut oil as a pre poo but its far from a bad product.

The repair shampoo is really nice, it is very moisturising but doesn't strip hair and it's a great size for the price. If you are a fan off Tresseme Naturals shampoo then this is a great alternative to that, I actually found it more moisturising. 

The Repair conditioner is rich with Jojoba oil and is very concentrated, the slip with this conditioner is pretty good so not much is needed for my length of hair, however those with longer hair will need more product, I found the 150ml tube on the small size it would be great if it came in the same size as the shampoo. That being said it's a nice rinse out conditioner and again the price is great! The Repair conditioner is 99% naturally derived. This was a great de-tangling conditioner.

I've used the whole line 3 times now and I'm impressed, it's a nice line with reasonably good ingredients for a very good price. The website has a lot of products from Make Up to Skin Care the only downside is that they do not have a full ingredients list on the website which is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. The CC cream: Pur Mineral

I'm late on the whole CC cream thing, but I'm finally getting into it, and have been searching high and low for a CC cream with fewer toxic ingredients that come in darker shades! I finally found one by Pur Minerals who have a dark selection (however no darker than medium brown) I did get a 4 in 1 powder but it wasn't a match, the CC cream however had more of a chance because it gets rubbed in rather than sit a top the skin (I think....) Pur Minerals CC cream is a moisturiser  brightener, primer, concealer and SPF foundation all in one. 

 I used the CC cream on freshly washed skin, and as a moisturiser and brightener it worked pretty well, it's quite thick but it rubs in easily, I used fingers to place cream under my eyes, cheeks, forehead and chin then used my Eco Tools buffering brush to blend into my skin, after blending it into my skin I still looked like me (not like Casper!) The CC cream self adjusts and leave skin bright and even. Personally I don't think I'd wear this CC cream on a daily basis as an alternative to my mineral foundation as I found it  a fraction to light and I like more coverage. But I would use it as a concealer and primer for skin it can be worn under other make up which is great and it's silicone free so no yucky film like layer on your skin. It's mineral based and free from things like Parabens and Mineral Oil

The Review: Ojon Rare Blend Deep Conditioner

With Claims of being the BB cream for hair I just had to try Ojon's new Rare Blend Deep Conditioner(£29.00) for myself and see if the hype was warranted. So basically Rare Blend DC is a Intensive conditioner that nourishes, softens and promotes shiny hair with a blend of 7 oils which include Ojon™ Oil, Brazilian muru muru, and Indian kokum butters this penetrates hair to remedy even very dry hair (that's me them!) Rare Blend DC also seals hair cuticle to lock in moisture, replenishes lost lipids ( group of naturally occurring molecules...who knew!) to repair and protect hair and is a daily treatment that boosts shine and tames frizz and flyaways....so like BB cream it covers a lot of bases.

I used Ojon Rare Blend DC after using Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative hair treatment to dry de-tangle, I used black soap to cleanse and followed this with Ojon Rare Blend DC. the Black soap leaves my hair super clean and always needs a rich conditioner after use Ojon Rare Blend DC felt amazing on my hair straight away! I used a generous dollop and smoothed it into my hair (as directed) and left for 2 minutes (though personally I think my hair type would have benefited from longer!) This products goes on really well it's quite thick yet it easily smooths into hair. After two minutes I rinsed off with luke warm water. I usually judge how moisturising a conditioner is by how defined my curls are after using, with the Ojon Rare Blend DC my hair was relatively coily. This was a good conditioner  my hair felt better than it usually does after I use a rinse out conditioner but I still needed a good helping of leave in conditioner (Soultanicals Knot Sauce) and sealant (Soultanicals Loc-N-roll, Twist & Fro Out) applied but Ojon was a good base.

I'm going to try and tweak how I use this product for the purpose of the first review I used as directed however I think with a few adjustments I could really get down with this product! I'm definitely going to leave it on for longer than 2 minutes and I may try it as a leave in as I have a feeling it may work well. I'll post the results of that experiment next week!



Ojon Rare Blend is a good quality product that would work great for relaxed hair types as I think it would really promote shine. I'm a huge fan of Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative hair treatment (it's my favourite pre poo) and I'd love to try the Rare Blend Oil as I think it would work great for afro hair.

The Review: Zao Organic Lipstick

I was very excited to hear that Zao Makeup was now available in the UK and Ireland as they were suggested to me as I'm currently on a quest to clean up my make up bag, Zao is naturally derived with organic ingredients and sustainable bamboo packaging which I'm in love with.  The Packaging is also great because it can be re used. I was sent a sample Zao's Matte Lipstick in Dark Red (£14.95 or Refill £9.99)

B E N E F I T S

Pomegranate 

Regenerating and moisturising, pomegranate extract provides an excellent level of moisture, it is also a good aid in cell regeneration and fighting against free radicals, which are responsible for tissue ageing. it also increases the synthesis of collagen, it fights the formation of fine lines on lips.

Cocoa butter

Cocoa butter protects the skin from aggressive external influences. It helps maintain moisture levels as it slows water loss from the skin by forming a barrier on the skin surface. 

Silver a Natural preservative 

These micro-particles of pure silver are antiseptic (especially on skin and mucous membranes) and antibacterial as well,  preserving the product and protecting the skin.

Castor oil

Castor oil is a very rich substance (one of the richest in fatty acids) that penetrates the skin quickly while providing nutrition and moisturising without leaving a greasy feeling but rather a silky one (you can find detailed benefits here)

Dark Red is more of a brown colour, (very reminiscent of Mac's Tabla) and though it is matte the lipstick goes on velvety smooth due to all the active moisturising ingredients, the colour pay off is quite good for a natural lipstick (I often find they don't have the brightest of hues) it's quite sheer but it is also buildable. Dark Red is a great every day lip colour as it is subtle and will be my Natural replacement for my trusty Tabla!  Zao does have foundation shades for darker skin tones though it is limited at the moment the Compact Foundation in Chocolate is one of the darkest I've seen from from a natural cosmetics line so hopefully more shades will be added soon!

The Review: Ade Vegan Hair

I've been using Ade Vegan Hair products all week to wash and refresh my hair, after being sent 4 items from the the brand owner. Ade Vegan Hair is loving hand made, Ade which is Yoruba for crown is a fitting name as my crown really appreciated these products. I was sent Cucumber Aloe Moisture Mist,

HibisCoCo African Shampoo, Rosehip Strand Essence and Follicle Food: Scalp Nutritive Treatment.

Follicle Food: Scalp Nutritive Treatment 

 Follicle Food regulates sebum production, stimulates circulation, and promotes nutrient intake. I oil my scalp once a week so I have only used this once, however it is light enough for and very concentrated a few pumps is amount to nourish your scalp I also used a little to add some shine throughout the week.

The Hibiscoco African Shampoo was lovely to use, I used it twice this week and it has not left my hair parched at all, It doesn't foam up due to the lack of foaming agents however this gives a brilliant clean, I'm already a black soap fan so I'm not at all surprised that I like this product

Cucumber Aloe Moisture Mist, is light and can be used everyday to refresh hair, I've been using it everyday, and find it a great refresher for my hair, I'm currently wearing my hair undefined (so no coils, twists or curl enhancing products) and this is for finger detangling and adding moisture to my hair, I've used all week with hardly any build up as a refresher. I've also used it on damp hair after shampooing.

Rosehip Strand Essence is the hero product from the Ade range, light and fluffy this butter is great! A little goes along way with this, it has worked wonders for my hair this week and is going into my ever expanding re buy pile! 

• Rosehip Botanical Extract - The Rosehip plant produces an amazing little berry that is not only packed with Vitamin C, Essential Fatty Acids, and healthy minerals, it contains an extract that is prized as a natural skin and hair care ingredient. 

• Silk Amino Acids - Silk amino acids penetrate the hair to strengthen, rebuild & nourish chemically damaged hair without weighing it down or causing buildup. These amino acids go deep down inside of the damaged hair cuticle to repair and protect it. They are hydroscopic, therefore having excellent moisture binding qualities. It adds softness, body and strength to the hair.

Overall I really liked Ade Vegan Hair, if I have one Critisism it would be that the labels, though beautifully printed they are made from paper and have started to come away from the products, this takes nothing away from the actual products themselves as they work! but perhaps lamented labels would work better. A lot of love went into these products they have a beautiful hand crafted feel and a lovely aroma, I hope to see Ade Vegan Hair grow!

The Salt: Naturally Made For You Pink Himalayan Salt

I smelt Naturally Made for You's Pink Himalayan Salt Exfoliator (£12.99) before I actually touched the product, as did my postman who mentioned how wonderful it smelt, The Rose and Lavender aroma is delicious!  and it's been filling our little flat with it's sweet smell for over two weeks until the sun came out and I figured it's time to start prepping my skin for summer!

Himalayan Pink Salt is a pure, hand mined sun dried salt from the Himalayas (go figure!) and is the purest salt available, rich with minerals (a whopping 84 can be found). The salt balances the skins PH, increases circulation and releases toxins. (apparently this is a good thing)

I used the salts on dry skin before my evening shower, this is because skin rejuvenates whilst we sleep, I'm a huge fan of salt scrubs, as I find it benefits all my other product choices, allowing skin to better absorb creams and butters, and salt scrubs also leaves my skin noticeably radiant and glowing Naturally Made For You was no exception, it left my skin feeling very soft. I also used the salt in the shower and again had nice results (you know how much I love a multitasking product) Naturally Made For You Have a nice selection of products, that are fairly priced and you can tell they are made with care. you can check out the site here

The Review: Mahogany Naturals ACV Shampoo Bar

I was sent some products from Mahogany Naturals to review, after reviewing the brand last year I was excited to see what new goodies Tope (founder) had to offer, So far I'm head over heels for the Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo Bar (£6.95).

Naturalistas have been using ACV for some time as this benefits of  being a highly acidic liquid that helps smooth the hair cuticles, gently improve shine, manageability and can enhance curl definition.

The ACV Shampoo Bar foamed up well without much fuss, so for those who like to work up a lather when shampooing this may be for you.  The smell is great but what was really nice is the clean feel of my hair with out leaving it stripped. I follows this up with my usually styling method of leave in conditioner (TRESseme Naturals) and Coconut Oil mixed with a little Eco Styler Gel. I definitely noticed a difference in my hair regarding my curlies, this is one of my best wash n go's
